Hey Matt, You're not really a car guy are you. Drag Racing is not about "wanting to do burnouts in a straight line". You've chose to ignore a lot have things that have already been said or they have gone over your head. Go back to the start and have a read (a few times if you need to).

Wake up Matt

It was the Govt that banned Adelaide Motorplex from having a trade stall at the Clipsal 500. You are being sucked in by the Labor Govt with Tailem Bend.

It is good you are so knowledgeable Matt - maybe you can tell us how much land the Government are going to make available so we can have the plans etc drawn up. I believe Tailem Bend know their Land Mass size - after all it is a Government Initiative!

Howdy

How come we can get nothing but a vision for this when we try to go and promote this?

There are no plans, drawings, anything, just a sketch and a bunch of words.

Being in sales as a career, it seems odd to us that this wasn't (Flyers with details) considered.

Remember, the gag was lifted a while back now, so this can't be the reason.

I know, it's not me that is putting the money up, but maybe the rest of us know a thing or 2 about promotion these days.

Tailem Bend had an aerial shot of the track they are building, has what is what and what will go where. Give Jo Malloy a call on 0407 795 729. This was the number on the flyer I got from the Clipsal.

Also, the Dick who did the burnout in Rundle Street.. please know that a MOTORPLEX would not have stopped him doing this, "Psychology 101" would tell you this, so please please please stop saying that MOTORPLEX will stop burnouts on the streets,it sounds so ill-informed.

Liberal Party just had their TV commercial on talking about the first 5 things they'll do if elected. I guess Gillman is after #5 as it wasn't mentioned at all.

A few days to go before we vote, lets hope the MOTORPLEX Promotion Department can get some flyers out that are similar to Tailem Bend, so easy to have done so sad it never was.

The Caravan and Camping show was the last real chance we had of getting the word out to those who don't know of our vision.

I know this will get a few fired up replies, which is good, we all need a kick in the pants , starting from way at the top to us ground walkers to get this up and going

Its that simple!!

Matt & Ashley,

We have always stated that it will be a Multi Coded Motorsport Park - IT IS NOT JUST A DRAG STRIP!

It will obviously have a Drag Strip; A Full 4.7Kms Circuit; A Drift Circuit; A Jet Sprintboat Circuit; A Speedway; An Off Road Circuit; A Business Park; A Conference Centre; Youth Mentoring Programs for Troubled and Disadvantaged Youths, Driver Training Schools from Basic to Advanced and Defensive - the possibilities are endless. We often refer to the Motorplex as a Community Project for the Community.

As far as assurances go from the Liberal Party - as has been stated on many, many occasions guys that is what the "Letter of Commitment" is all about. Should the Liberal Party be Elected on Saturday and not honor their Policy to make the land available to the developers - the developers can then sue for breach of Agreement. Their is a copy of this Letter on the front page of the Website.

Prior to the Libs making this Policy they took the time to visit Perth Motorplex to research for themselves and saw first hand the Motorplex in operation - they did their homework. LABOR HAVE NOT TO DATE DONE THEIR HOMEWORK

Should you have any further queries - just ask,

By the way you obviously didn't attend Motorsport Rocks the Port where Isobel Redmond spent approx. 2.5 hours not only explaining the Libs intent, but walking around and talking to the Racers and Enthusiasts of all Codes.

I agree with Matt. While a competition Drag strip is long over due, there are a lot of things that concern me about the upcoming elections and this Motorplex is just one of them. If I decide to vote for the liberal party (& who is to say they will go ahead with their promises..."We will not sell ETSA", anyone?) I want to know what we are getting. What are the full plans?

If im going to vote for the libs for a motorsport complex it needs to do more than drag racing. Im not convinced this will go any further than a drag strip. How hard would it be to release a ruff plan of what you want to do (other than that you want to do burn outs in a straight line)

In reality the vote count on the day will tell us if our brethren really did support us in the numbers that have been espoused. I can't speak on behalf of the Liberal Party of for Family First. But I can speak for myself and I for one will not give up the fight for what I believe in regardless of the outcome this Saturday. Yeah. That land at TBend has been available but they would only sell it to clubs, so that meant the consortium was not going to get that option anyway. Thats how i understood it.

Apparently that little venture at Tbend is going to cost tax payers unlike the Motorplex.

Shame on Clipsal! Shame on the Rann Government

Cancer patients beds sold to rev heads

04 Mar, 2010 04:21 PM

Adelaide cancer patients awaiting urgent treatment are being forced out of their beds for V8 race car fans.

The Cancer Council SA owns and operates motels for cancer patients close to the Adelaide central business district as well as providing transport to and from hospital for treatment.

But rooms at one of the motels are being let to V8 fans over cancer patients.

A 65-year-old man with terminal cancer who has just months to live was told by hospital and Cancer Council staff that no rooms would be available to patients while the Adelaide's round of the national V8 championships .. the Clipsal 500 takes place.

The man's wife says her husband has had to put off his treatment and will be in pain for at least another week.

The Cancer Council SA says the only reason the hotel is open to Clipsal 500 fans is due to race road closures impeding patients' transport to the hospital excess noise from the cars and current vacancies.

Thought you may like to read this particularly as they did not want the Adelaide Motorplex money:

Costs, conditions curtail Clipsal

KEVIN NAUGHTON

06 Mar, 2010 04:00 AM

Adelaide’s Clipsal 500 is feeling the dual pain of tougher economic conditions and higher costs for infrastructure installation with taxpayers likely to pick up the bill.

Revenues from corporate sponsorship and entertainment packages are down around a million dollars on last year – and $2 million down on 2008.

The declines in top line revenue coincide with increased costs for the put up and pull down of temporary grandstands and pit pavilion.

“It’s the kind of pain experienced by major events all around the nation,” said Clipsal spokesman Mike Drewer.

“In 2008 our corporate revenue was $9.62 million; it went down to $8.65 million in 2009 and it’s tracking further down for this month’s race.

“At the top end of the market – the pit pavilion corporate suites are selling well, but at the entry level it’s a different story,” Mr Drewer said.

“For those smaller types of corporate tents where in the past several businesses have combined to hire a facility for the four days we are seeing less demand.

“In the current economic environment companies take the opportunity to review all of their discretionary expenditure, so naturally some make the decision to cut back on this form of corporate promotion.”

Similar trends were seen at Melbourne’s Australian Tennis Open.

For Adelaide’s top rating V8 event, the cost of temporary grandstands, shade and a new pit pavilion have added to the costs of staging the race.

“It cost about $1.5 million to put up and take down infrastructure last year and it will be slightly more this year,” he said.

“The increase will be in line with CPI.”

According to the SA Motor Sport Board’s financial report for 2009 the $20 million capital cost of temporary infrastructure will be amortised over 12 years.

Budgeted “commitments for the staging of future events” for the next five years jumped from $8.4 million in 2008 to $33.6 million in 2009, according to the 2009 annual report.

The report notes that more than $3 million had been spent on the cancelled permanent grandstand project.

The 2009 event was attended by 272,800 motor racing fans over the four days.

The event is underwritten by the State Government.

Mikee Mike,

We have had a few probs with the Ad but should be going to air either tonight or tomorrow. Also the A Frame should be ready either today or tomorrow - so hopefully you will be seeing that as well around town, over the next week.

Just an update - the Parklands Preservation Society have a Candidate standing for the Election, who is also Chairman of the Society - they are also getting behind the Complex as well. Her name is Kelly Henderson and the Preservation Society would obviously like the Clipsal out of the city and on a purpose built venue.

In a few days time we have the opportunity of making sure that the Government listen to us through the ballot box, it is crucial that we keep up the momentum and pressure throughout this campaign.

The South Australian Motorsport Enthusiasts deserve the Adelaide Motorplex, just like the rest of the country, why should SA miss out on all the benefits such as tourism, employment and a safe environment to accommodate motoring enthusiasts young and old.

I will be attending the rally this weekend at Parliament House and the Clipsal 500 and will keep on campaigning right up until voting closes on election day. This issue effects the whole community is certainly not going to go away no matter who wins the election and I stand committed to achieving a Motorplex at the Port.

We need to have as many people as possible at both these two events, to keep the up pressure until election day.

Your vote in the Upper House is imperative if we are going to achieve this goal.

Vote 1 Independent Joe Ienco Motorsports, Land Tax and Mental Health

Just letting you know that we are having an "A Frame" being built - should be completed in 2 - 3 days. We will be using this each and everyday, particularly in Marginal Seats while we Letter Box Drop in these areas and, also around Clipsal this weekend. The TV Ad should also start mid week.

Don't forget the "Vote Labor Last Rally" on Parliament Steps this weekend! With the number of Lobby Groups involved - there will be Media! Something I don't understand, and please note, this is a genuine concern/question.

99.99% of people who come to this site already know about the cause we are all fighting for.

Peole who go to a show at the Port already know about the cause.

I went to the Caravan and Camping show and did what I could on the day to promote, had some great interest which was encouraging.

What we dont understand is , why are we going to events to promote our cause where those that are likely to be there already know about the Motorplex??

Some events that may be of interest should have been the:

1/ Caravan and Camping Show. reason, young families with young kids.Enough said.

2/Crows V Melbourne at Elizabeth.Did we have anyone there?

What I do understand is a thing called COLD CALLING. I think we all need to get out of our comfort zone and start talking to those we dont know eg, sporting clubs etc as this is where tomorrow's drivers will be coming from.

It's so simple to do, make a phone call to the group you would like to go to, explain who and what you are wanting to acheive( support for the Motorplex) and don't whatever you do is to start playing polititan when talking to those we are trying to win over. Then arrange a date where you can go and talk to a group, I'm sure we can grab a few cars to take along also.

Now I know some of you who read this will be wanting to type back some abuse way too quick and start pumping your chest and type about what's happened so far.But remember, it's those who DONT know about the complex we want to be speaking to

Public rallies are fine, but let those who DONT know about the cause be notified too.

March 20th is way too close to rely on us getting TV coverage. It's the ground work of hitting the streets that gets the results.

Cant expect the small group who seem to do it all to continue without running out of steam.

March 20th 2010, almost there, lets take this fight to the final bell.

Hi everyone. Great day at the Port last week. We brought out our race car(though incomplete)from the shed for its first outing and enjoyed having it on display. The body is being worked on so we were unable to have it attached to the chassis as yet. Now about the rann govt. I can't express my absolute disgust enough about the V8 RACE Motorplex Proposal stall being refused. I didn't think they could, but rann and co. have sunk to a new low. They are pulling all their dirty tricks from rann's handbook of lies and deceit and I am absolutely filthy about this latest govt. stunt. Hi Everyone,

My apologies if this is going to wreck your weekend. I have just had an email advising me that the Sporting Car Club of SA have not only been permitted into Clipsal, but are being permitted to promote the Tailem Bend project.

I will have to look into the authenticity of this claim and then, as per instructions by the Developers, gain Legal advice on SUCH DISCRIMINATION.

All I can say is if the above is true and accurate, the Government must be really be worried re: the outcome of the Election to

resort to such "filthy tricks". But then, this is so typical of the Government and how low it is stooping, all so they can dictate" for yet another term in office. And as for the Clipsal 500 - what an embarrassment to the State you are! What an embarrassment to the Motorsport Enthusiasts of this State!

Mark,

The Speedway Track is the final Stage of this project as their are existing tracks already in SA. There is NO bias toward Drag Racing except for the fact we no longer have an operating Quarter Mile here in SA. The same applies to the Jet Sprint Boat guys - both of these Codes have to travel Interstate to compete and enjoy their sport - NOW THAT IS BIAS!

As for the Circuit - it is planned to be 4.7Kms and has been submitted and given the tick of approval by CAMS.

We will release further info when we secure the land from the Government - that has to be our priority right now and is dependent on the Liberal Party winning this Election!

The government have never been interested in Motorsport in South Australia as far back as I can remember. When I was racing Speedway and we (Racing Drivers Association) owned Speedway Park. We run into finacial difficulty and asked the government for a low interest rate loan. Not even a grant but just a low interest rate loan. They lent us less than what we needed to remain viable and the rest is history. We lost Speedway Park and then had to sell our clubrooms to pay off the balance of that piddly loan. Years later they relised how manyvotes they could get and hence the Formula One became a reality. Then they lost it and replaced it with the Super Cars. They even spent a fortune on getting the Tour Down Under here in Adelaide. When are they going to realise that we the tax payers are interested in all facets of motorsport and not just the ones that politicians get votes from. With your support I would dearly love to remind them of what we the motoring fans of South Australia want. Vote 1 for C.A.R.S on the 20th of March and let's see if we can reverse the Drag Racing drought we have experienced for the past decade.

Re Mr Stephens letter.

As the current value of land in the region of the

proposed motorplex is between 1.5million and 2million a hectare, does this not make for a rather large outlay before anything is started?

Is the consortium aware of the real value of this land?

Hi Guys, I know you are hurting out there andwe believe that the state does need a motorplex where hard working Sth Australians can enjoy their fruits of hard labour under controlled and supervised conditions. We believe there are many positves to a motorplex hence this is why we have included to approve a motorplex facilty in our policies.

Please dont hesitate to call me if you have any questions on our stance 0421 593 729

Hi Everyone,

I need your help! There is a VOTE LABOR LAST Rally planned for Clipsal Sunday - 14th March on the steps of Parliament from 11.00am - 12.00Noon only.

The plans are to have a lot of the Lobby Groups there including Motorsport at the Port,RAH, Glenside, Children Awareness etc etc with everyone wearing RED. We need lots and lots of people there 1: to make a Statement to the Government that it is TIME FOR A CHANGE and 2.This is our very last opportunity.

I thought then that ALL the MOTORSPORT AT THE PORT PEOPLE could walk across to the Clipsal 500 (all those that were intending to go - that is) and enter together - WEARING OUR T-SHIRTS!

At the Rally I intend to publicly challenge Mr Rann, and ask him to match the Letter of Commitment received from the Liberal Party as he has done with the Party Pledges ..............

hmmmmmmmm me thinks that could be interesting!

Please, this is our last opportunity to get our message across, Public Awareness of our plight and Media coverage so it would be appreciated if you could support this Event.

I completely agree with rosco. The most frustrating part is they relate professional motor sport with street racing, its got as much in common as the afl and drunken pub fights while the tv is playing an afl game. Come on march 20 and with thanks to rann's hospital idea he's also lost my mums vote too, thats a whole family from labor to liberal now :-D

When are the opposing people going to figure out that this complex is about providing a place for dedicated race cars/boat/bikes, to participate in their chosen form of motorsport.

Why can't these people see that this is just the same as a footy club having a ground to play on or for horse racing to have a track to race on. What about the cyclists having a velodrome to use or a basket ball team having a stadium to play in ........ this is exactly the same, all we are asking for is some land to be provided for somewhere to build a place to go!

Why is that to much to ask?
